Floodlighting and Courts 1 + 2
After over thirty years of trying and at the fourth attempt (and no I am not talking about England winning the World Cup I am talking about something much more important!!!) we have just heard that the Club has been successful in its application for planning permission to install floodlights on Courts 1 and 2. I am sure you will agree that this is fantastic news and gives us the opportunity to have the kind of facilities which a club such as Dukes Wood needs.
Our current plan is to have the lights installed when we re-surface Courts 1 and 2 at the end of the summer season so that we can be up and running to use the lights through the winter months. This will mean play will be possible after school on winter evenings for juniors and in the evenings up to 9.00pm for seniors. No longer will our juniors have to travel to other local clubs to enjoy their after-school coaching.
Needless to say, the re-surfacing of the two Courts and the installation of high quality lighting is going to be expensive and the Tennis Committee meet next week to agree the funding plans. It might be possible to secure some grants or loans from the LTA and other bodies and of course we shall be pursuing all possible sources of funding. However, the Committee is confident that with a determined effort and the continuing support of members we can raise the further cash we shall need so that the work can be undertaken in the Autumn.
I shall write out again when our plans are firmer but in the meantime, I thought you would be pleased to hear of this important development.

Membership of LTA
Tom has details including application forms in the pro shop. The form outlines benefits of membership. It is worth noting that only members who have joined will be eligible for Wimbledon tickets through the club ballot. Indeed the number of Wimbledon tickets allocated to the club will in future be based on the number of British Tennis Members we have.
